That speaks for itself, but I gotta flail anyway.
FINALLY. FINA. LLY. FINA. FUCKING. LLY.
A FUCKING NADAL BEAT-DOWN AT THE HANDS OF JESUSFEDGODERER.
I'VE ALWAYS KNOWN HE HAD IT IN HIM. FINALLY. AFTER SO MANY DAMN FUCKING YEARS, HE FINALLY DOES IT. YES, WE ALL KNEW THAT NADAL WASN'T COMPLETELY IN FORM; YES, WE ALL KNEW, TOO, THAT ROGER OWNS NADAL INDOORS; BUT FUCKING HELL, ALL FED FANS KNOW TOO WELL HOW MUCH NADAL GETS TO ROGER. EVEN WHEN HE PLAYS WELL, NADAL FINDS A WAY TO MAKE HIM LOSE.
BUT NOT THIS TIME. NOT THIS FUCKING TIME. THIS TIME, ROGER REMAINS IN GOD-MODE ALL THE WAY AND HANDS NADAL HIS ASS THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE PREVIOUS 17 MEETINGS THAT NADAL WON.
Okay, losing the capslock now. But seriously? This felt so damn good. It's a small consolation compared to that French Open final, but it felt so damn good all the same. I'd admit that the first thing that I thought of when I woke up this morning, 10 minutes before my alarm was due to go off, was, "OMG DID ROGER WIN???" Unable to contain my need to know, I checked the results on my stupid phone (i.e. non-smart phone without 3G or whatever) and the first thing that I saw was an article announcing Roger's qualification for the semi-final rounds. Then I clicked on "more news" and saw that Roger demolished Nadal in exactly 1 hour.
Nothing could piss me off today (well, except the amazing Marina Bay Sands but more about that in another entry), and that was when I hadn't even watched the match. I came home, had dinner, then eagerly sat down in front of my TV and watched this amazing epic match.
My dominant feeling wasn't really how good Roger was; it was how much I wished I could play just 1% of the tennis that he plays, just to experience what it feels like. People who don't play tennis at all can never understand how awe-inspiring it is to watch Roger Federer like this. Seemingly every shot he hits find the mark that he wants. He swings his arm and he hits a winner. Nadal pummels his backhand and he pummels Nadal's in return. Nadal makes him go on the run and he defends so beautifully and quickly turns defence into attack. How does he do it? Goddammit, I wish I could just inhabit his body for 1 minute, just 1 minute, when he plays like that and experience it for myself.
In the midst of the assault he fires at Nadal, primarily from the forehand, his face manages to remain calm and serene. This is actually the most amazing thing about him. The only time he grimaces is when he serves, and even then it's only a slight grimace. How does he not let the exertion show on his face? It's incredible. He hits the ball as hard as anyone else and it doesn't show on his face at all.
Sigh. I'm in awe. This match was just sheer brilliance from Roger. Nadal didn't play badly but he didn't play well either; mostly there was just nothing that he could do. It was an assault from 4-2 in the first set to 6-0 in the last. Roger actually dominated the long baseline rallies. Do you know how incredible that is? Whenever he has to play Nadal the first thing that I hope he does is to keep the rallies short because Nadal almost always overwhelms him from the baseline. But not this match, oh no; this match, Nadal was being dominated from the baseline. Roger barely needed to rush the net; he barely needed to even play a volley after the approach shot when he did approach. He got passed once and couldn't put away the volley a couple of times, but other times Nadal just couldn't handle the approach shot.
It's the way he takes the ball so early. It's the way he hits with so much confidence and calm. His forehand was just - I don't even want to try to describe it because no words can do justice to how absolutely sublime it was. This was VintageFed from start to finish. What an absolute masterclass. Now I wish I'd followed his career when he was dominating the tour; such performances happen maybe 5 times a year if I'm lucky.
But I have been lucky - this is the second vintage JesusFed performance in two weeks. Hopefully he keeps this up and shows whoever he faces in the semi-final and final what it means, what it really means, to play against Roger Goderer.
I didn't want to stalk Roger at all in Melbourne but oh my god, I really want to see him upclose. I might have to put aside my dignity for 5, 6 days and camp out at his practice sessions and jostle with like 47526732671641948592 other people to get a picture with him, omggggg. I don't think I could even look him in the eye. I'd be stunned into silence and immobility. Stunned and awed and humbled in the presence of God.
OKAY I KID. I'M JUST TYPING NONSENSE. BUT I'M REALLY HAPPY THAT ROGER BEAT NADAL IN SUCH A DECISIVE FASHION AND THIS IS LIKE THE FIRST TIME IN 4 YEARS THAT ROGER GAVE NADAL A BAGEL SO I'M ENTITLED TO GLOAT.
I wish I could post some incisive analysis but I can't be bothered.
I also have other things that I want to
For now, OMG ROGERRRRRRRR. PLEASE WIN THIS FUCKING TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
