I watched Carol tonight at St John's college's cinema with John and Daniel. It is basically a large-ish auditorium with a proper projector where you can watch a movie on uncomfortable seats and with your neck tilted slightly downwards (because the screen is lower than a normal screen in a cinema) for 4 pounds. It was a pretty good deal.

The movie, however, was a bit meh. I don't know if I was simply tired and thus couldn't deal with the relatively slow pace of the film, but I couldn't really get into it. Fundamentally, I didn't find the relationship between the two women as believable as it should have been; there seemed to be a lack of chemistry between Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara that failed to fully sell the love between them. It felt like a very pretty-looking movie in which Cate Blanchett dominated with her typically on-point performance and I was simply observing from a distance, half-wondering when it was going to end.

On Friday night, however, I watched 我的少女时代, a formulaic, cheesy romantic comedy from Taiwan, and I cried like a fucking baby. I was moved - way too moved - by the cheesy but touching love story between the two main characters. It also helped that the actor who played the male protagonist was so hot.

I am too tired to formulate thoughts, let alone sentences, so I'll post this, read a bit and then go to bed.
